"Portugal Pop” in book form

Presentation on 12 November, 3 p.m., Casa do Design


The exhibition "Portugal Pop. Fashion in Portuguese. 1970-2020", on show at the Casa do Design since March 19th, is about to end.

The closing ceremony is scheduled for 3pm next Saturday, at Casa do Design, and will be marked by the launch of a book allusive to the exhibition with a presentation by Bárbara Coutinho, exhibition curator and editorial responsible for the work, and a round table with Catarina Vasques Rito, Cláudia Albino, Cristina L. Duarte, José Bártolo, Madalena Braz Teixeira, Rita Salvado, authors of the reflections on Portuguese fashion that are part of the publication.

PORTUGAL POP. Moda em Português 1970-2020 addresses national fashion from the eve of the revolution of April 25th 1974 to the present day, seeking to reflect on the historical and cultural legacy of different generations of designers. The conception and editorial responsibility of the book now launched belongs to Bárbara Coutinho, director and programmer of MUDE - Museum of Design and Fashion, also responsible for the curatorship of the exhibition inaugurated in March.

The book launching event will have a presentation by Bárbara Coutinho and a round table with Catarina Vasques Rito, Cláudia Albino, Cristina L. Duarte, José Bártolo, Madalena Braz Teixeira, Rita Salvado, authors of the reflections on Portuguese fashion that integrate the publication.

The exhibition, on show until next Sunday, November 13th, at Casa do Design, shows the last 50 years of Portuguese fashion history and encourages reflection on its identity and its cultural, economic and social value. From music to spectacle, from traditional crafts to sustainability, the selection of about 200 pieces includes garments worn by Amália Rodrigues, António Variações, Doce, Heróis do Mar, The Gift, Joana Vasconcelos, Conan Osiris or Cláudia Pascoal.

The exhibition and the book "PORTUGAL POP. A Moda em Português 1970-2020" are the result of a co-production between Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos / esad-idea, Investigação em Design e Arte and Câmara Municipal de Lisboa / MUDE - Museu do Design e da Moda, Coleção Francisco Capelo.
