Portugal will face a new heat wave

After a month of intense heat in July, the hottest in the last 92 years, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

Portugal is preparing to face a new heat wave already from this Saturday, August 20.

The alert was given this Wednesday by the Minister of Internal Administration, José Luís Carneiro, who revealed that the third heat wave will extend until September.

"Next month, we will have weather that is generally warmer than in previous September, between 50 to 60%, and drier, between 40 to 50%," he said, after a meeting at the headquarters of IPMA.

Taking into account the forecast, the risk of fires also increases, with 50 counties "in maximum danger," according to CNN Portugal.

"When I said a few days ago that we could not lower our guard, it was precisely this scenario that I was referring to, because of the information we are receiving from IPMA," added José Luís Carneiro.
