Price Monitoring: more than 50% profit margins detected on onions

ASAE opens 51 criminal cases for speculation in the food sector

The Food and Economic Security Authority has filed 51 criminal proceedings for speculation in inspections of 960 operators and detected profit margins of over 50% on onions. The ASAE also filed 91 administrative lawsuits.

These conclusions are part of the latest analysis of this authority to the rise in food prices, which was presented this Thursday at a press conference at the Ministry of Economy and Sea, in Lisbon.

The ASAE also moved 91 administrative proceedings, as part of these actions that have been underway since the second half of 2022.

The Minister of Economy promised to "be inflexible" for all anomalous situations in the food sector, advancing that the Food and Economic Safety Authority will start this Thursday a new operation.
