Programme for the 2026 Festivities of Senhor de Matosinhos

The programme for the 2026 Festas do Senhor de Matosinhos was announced this morning; the festivities will take place from 15 May to 7 June.

The Solemn Procession in honour of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos will be held on 24 May at 4.00 pm, and is considered one of the region’s most iconic acts of faith. On 26 May, a municipal holiday, the city will celebrate the Solemn Eucharist at 11.00 am.

Music will be one of the main attractions, with free concerts in the gardens of the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library. The musical festivities kick off on 16 May at 10.00 pm with the energy of Expensive Soul, followed by the talent of Miguel Araújo on 22 May, also at 10.00 pm.

At midnight on 23 May, the Port of Leixões will be the setting for the fireworks display. Later, on 26 May at 7.00 pm, 25 de Abril Park will host the traditional “Fogo de Bonecos” (Bonfire of Dolls).

On the cultural front, the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library will host, between 23 May and 11 July, the photographic exhibition “Senhor de Matosinhos, Doces da Romaria” (Lord of Matosinhos, Pilgrimage Sweets), by Paulo Calisto. This exhibition, with free admission, invites visitors on a visual journey through the delicacies that characterise this festival.

For lovers of handicrafts, FaMa – the Matosinhos Handicrafts Fair – will be held in Jardim Basílio Teles from 15 May to 7 June. This venue will be the ideal meeting place to discover traditional crafts and the vibrant local creativity.
