Serralves to open a new wing of the museum designed by Siza Vieira

The Serralves Foundation will open the new wing of the museum in the year that marks the centennial of the Park, with the motto "Memory and Future"



According to Público newspaper, there are several Portuguese names that will be part of the calendar of activities of this celebration, such as Carla Filipe and António Júlio Duarte, renowned figures in the history of art; Alexander Calder and Dan Graham, but also international names such as the American duo Allora & Calzadilla, the Canadian Kapwani Kiwanga, the Indian Dayanita Singh and the Colombian Oscar Murillo.

However, according to the newspaper, what may come to have more prominence in Serralves this year is the Alexander Calder: A Line of Balance exhibition, a partnership with the Pompidou Center in Paris, which arrives in Porto in June.

The newspaper also reports that Carla Filipa will inaugurate her first major individual retrospective in March. Speaking to Público, MACS director Philippe Vergne reiterates that the exhibition will help "project her work beyond Portuguese borders.

In the fall, the Poente Building, designed by Álvaro Siza as an extension of the current Museum of Contemporary Art (MACS), will also be inaugurated.
