"O Cheiro dos Velhos" - Save the Language of Camões

The cycle "Hail the Language of Camões" aims at the defence and dissemination of the Portuguese language, through dramatized readings of emerging and consecrated authors of Lusophone literature.

"In the dramaturgical work O Cheiro dos Velhos, the action arises from the conflict between reality and fiction, between truth and lies, between the smell of cowardice and the smell of the old, a metaphor about the musty smell of the old and lapsed bureaucratic State, embodied by Osvaldo Pio - by the way, not at all pious - civil servant, and A Velha, a user for whom one has no respect, since without a name and without an identity."

Manuel Brito-Semedo

In an age geared towards theatricality, where the play of media fantasies and the histrionic colours with which everyday banalities are adorned blur the boundaries between "truth" and "lie", is reason on one side, in the middle or nowhere?

"Casa das Partidas" Orchestra of Families - Music

Orquestra de Famílias presents "Casa de Partidas" live, 2nd April, at 16h00, at CARA - Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, in Real Vinícola. A kind of open rehearsal where we try to answer the question: what does it take to build a house? Between tricks and jokes, merry-go-rounds and ribbons that take us back to a circus, we search for some clues packed with songs from all times.

The repertoire will include "A Casa" by Vinícius de Morais, "A Minha Casinha" by António Melo (music) and João Silva Tavares (lyrics), "With a Little Help from My Friends" by Lennon-McCartney, "Dinky Toys" by António Pinho Vargas, "Canção do Miradouro" by Jorge Prendas, and the traditional "House of the Rising Sun" and "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me 'Round".

Guided by Sara Vilar, Ana Conceição and Beatriz Rôla, the Family Orchestra is a project of the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos educational programme, created in 2018, with the support of the Matosinhos City Council.

Inclusive and multidisciplinary, with fortnightly sessions and free access, this is an informal orchestra of parents and children, uncles and grandparents, which deepens family ties through the development of creative musical and arts skills, in groups and individually.

Pequena CircOOnference - Conference

Pequena CircOOnference is a conference about the circus! Dedicated to a small audience, the performance fluctuates between the historical rigour of the History of the European Circus, and the dreamlike dimension of a historian who aspires to be a Circus performer. Inspired by the different bibliographical registers, we encourage the will of fictionalising a story, from the facts of its own history! The route is not linear, and the idea is to stir, to make people reflect, to form critical mass. Antipodean by nature, poetic, rebellious and dreamy, the circus imaginary is part of the collective memory of the general public. CircOOnference is an act of freedom in the reconstruction of Circus History, written and interpreted with elements of humour, risk and poetry, and transversal to all generations!
