From July 26 until August 4, the streets of Matosinhos will be filled with colour with the XXV edition of FESTARTE, the Matosinhos International Festival of Arts and Popular Tradition.

This year's edition will bring the dances, melodies, gastronomy and handicrafts of the regions that define the identity of their people to Matosinhos from 26 July to 4 August.

The festival will have various events for all tastes and ages, such as the Opening Gala (26th July at 9.30pm in the Leça da Palmeira Parish Hall); the Traditional Games Show (27th July at 10am in Quinta da Conceição); the Leça da Palmeira International Festival (28th July at 3.30pm in the Eng. Fernando Pinto de Oliveira Garden, Leça da Palmeira); the Heart Gala (31 July at 3pm at the Padre Ramos Social Centre in Lavra); the Traditional Music Recitals (31 July in various churches in the municipality of Matosinhos); the Gastronomy Show (2 August at 8pm in Largo do Castelo in Leça da Palmeira) and the Closing Gala (4 August at 3.30pm in Basílio Teles Park in Matosinhos). All these events are free of charge.

At the same time, from 27 July to 4 August, the Costume and Craft Exhibition of the participating countries will be on display at Mar Shopping Matosinhos.

Delegations from Botswana, Ivory Coast, Spain, the United States of America, India, Macedonia, Paraguay, Poland and the Czech Republic are expected at the festival.

"FESTARTE aims to be a benchmark for international festivals of popular arts and traditions, continuing to make Matosinhos a centre where the ethnographic, gastronomic and cultural traditions of communities from different countries converge," says the festival organisers.
