The 18th edition of the 500 Miles ACP will be on the road this Friday and Saturday, with almost seven dozen classic cars facing the more than 700 kilometres of the longest road in the country, the National 2, between Faro and Chaves. The challenge of the ACP race takes teams across the country in a journey of over 16 hours
The ACP 500 Miles will bring together 68 teams to cover the entire National Road 2, between the cities of Faro and Chaves. There will be classic cars built between 1954 and 1976 (but with production start date in 1974), setting up a real trip back in time to discover the country. Among the vast squad, there are several emblematic cars, such as a 1954 Austin Healey, the oldest car in competition, several historic examples of Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz or Alfa Romeo, three Alpine A110, and even a rare 1960 AC Aceca.
The teams will gather this Friday afternoon in Faro, near Hotel Eva, for the technical and administrative checks. The next morning, the first competitor will start at 06h01, heading for the EN2, which will be driven all the way to Chaves, passing by Ferreira do Alentejo (where breakfast will be served, in the parish of Odivelas), Mora, Abrantes, Sertã, Tondela, Lamego and Santa Marta de Penaguião. In between, the caravan will make a stop in Constância, in the district of Santarém, where the teams may recover their energy for the second half of the marathon. In the afternoon, the caravan will make another stop at Barragem da Aguieira. From 10 pm on Saturday night, the first competitors are expected to arrive in Chaves, and dinner and prize giving will take place at Aquae Flavia Hotel.
Along the roads of Portugal
The regularity competition is composed of a total of 19 classifications divided into two stages, with four categories in competition (depending on the year of manufacture of the car). In total, the competitors will cover about 740 kilometres, in a driving marathon that will demand endurance from the machines and concentration from the drivers, to comply with the mandatory regularity controls. And, as is the prerogative of the ACP Clássicos organisations, a journey into the history and culture of the regions that cross the EN2, one of the most emblematic roads in Europe.
