The agreement signed on July 22 of last year between the association and the Government contemplates a map of priority schools to be rehabilitated
The National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) demanded this Tuesday, February 07, that the Government presents a schedule of investments to be made in schools transferred to municipalities, taking into account the agreement signed in July last year.
In a statement, ANMP recalls that in July 2022 an agreement was signed between the association and the Government, in which the executive led by António Costa "committed to carry out investment in construction and upgrading of school buildings" through various sources of funding, including the program of European funds Portugal 2030, the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European Investment Bank.
In the same note, ANMP, meeting this Tuesday in the board of directors, announces that "decided to demand the Government to present a schedule of investments to be made in schools transferred to municipalities and respective sources of funding to ensure the construction and upgrading of 451 schools included" in that agreement.
The agreement signed on July 22 last year between the association and the government includes a map of priority schools to be rehabilitated, "which may still be subject to corrections", in which "there are 451 schools", according to the president of ANMP, Luísa Salgueiro (PS), who also heads the Matosinhos city council, in the Porto district.
On November 15 last year, the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion announced that, "using the extraordinary mechanism of anticipation of PT2030", notices for financing interventions in schools would be opened until the end of 2022.
On January 16 of this year, the PSD addressed a question to the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, through the Portuguese Parliament, questioning when the government would disclose the program of intervention in the 451 schools, if there is already a schedule with the deadlines and costs for the opening of tenders to rehabilitate them and, of the 451 schools mapped in the agreement, how many construction tenders have been opened.
"Six months after the signing of the commitment agreement, the Government has still not moved forward with investments or ensured that municipalities can do so in the requalification of the school park", accused the social-democrat MP Firmino Pereira, in the question addressed to the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa.
The ANMP meeting was hosted by the Mayor of São João da Pesqueira (Viseu district), Manuel Cordeiro, effective member of this association body representing the Independent Municipal Movements.
