Matosinhos exempts tourist tax for short stays

The Municipal Tourist Tax in Matosinhos is two euros.

The new Municipal Tourist Tax Regulation came into force in 2026, stating that Matosinhos City Council will no longer charge tourist tax on stays of less than four hours and on stays at campsites or caravan parks of three months or more.

According to the local authority, this change is due to the ‘disproportionate impact of the application’, with the aim of having ‘a fairer, more balanced and appropriate charge for the local situation’.

The new regulation establishes that ‘the tourist tax on overnight stays is payable per night, per fragment of day or night, on a “day use” or “by hours” basis, equal to or greater than four hours, up to a maximum of seven consecutive nights, per person and per stay’.

With regard to the amount charged for stays at campsites or caravan parks, the new regulation now exempts from the tourist tax ‘occupants of pitches or equipment at campsites or caravan parks who hold a long-term rental or usage contract of three months or more’.

The Municipal Tourist Tax in Matosinhos is two euros and is charged per night in Tourist Developments or Local Accommodation Establishments. For overnight stays in Campsites, Caravan Parks and Hostels, a fee of 50 cents per night is charged.
