Asteroid "extraordinarily close" to Earth

NASA announced that a giant asteroid passed "extraordinarily close to Earth" in the early hours of this Friday, January 27

This is asteroid 2023 Bu, 3.5 to 8.5 meters wide, which had "one of the closest approaches [of an object] to Earth" ever recorded.

As he revealed, the rocky body, which is "about the size of a truck," passed about 3,600 kilometers from Earth's surface, but posed no danger.

"The asteroid 2023 BU will have an extremely close but safe encounter with us, passing less than ten thousand kilometers from the center of the Earth," noted astronomer Gianluca Masi, quoted on the "Space" website.

The orbit of asteroid 2023 BU will come close to Earth again in 13 years, that is, in 2036.
