Caregiver Fellowship

More than 10,000 hours of rest provided to the families covered.

Caring for one or more dependents for 24 hours a day represents a heavy burden for many families both from a psychological and economic point of view.

A diagnostic study carried out by the Matosinhos Câmara and ADEIMA - Association for the Integrated Development of Matosinhos has shown that the lack of rest and socioeconomic support are the main needs expressed by informal caregivers.

Thus, in order to support this group of people, a Carers Pool was created in early 2020, providing six external caregivers with the appropriate profile and qualifications so that the informal caregivers can dedicate themselves to any other activity that constitutes a personal benefit and/or rest.

This project is not intended to substitute the Informal Caregiver or the services provided by the local IPSS network.

Care is available at home during weekdays, between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm, for a maximum of 4 hours per week (4h/day, in a continuous manner, or 2 times a week, for minimum periods of 2 h/day) and not exceeding 20 hours/month.

Between January 2020 and June 2022, the Caregiver Grant covered 42 families. During this period, 3328 home visits were performed and 10,070 hours of respite care were provided.

Currently 21 families maintain this service.
