Reflections on business opportunities and challenges in northern Portugal

The conference "Atlantic talks: Business opportunities and challenges in the north of Portugal", organized by Atlantic Hub, with the partnership of the Municipality of Matosinhos, and the Brasil Salomão law firm, took place today at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library.
Inserted in the "Month of the Companies", the initiative proposed a reflection on the contribution of the insertion of innovative and entrepreneurial businesses in the north region of Portugal.
Marta Pontes, councillor for Economic Development, Trade and Tourism of the Matosinhos City Hall was at the opening of the event and took the opportunity to welcome everyone present, welcoming the partnership "so natural and organic" that has been developed with the Atlantic Hub. "We have a lot in common and we want to make things happen", he stressed.
The councilwoman for Economic Development made a brief contextualization about the municipality of Matosinhos. "Matosinhos is very special", she began, and then developed several indicators that support this "special" characteristic she attributes to it.
"In less than 15 minutes we can be in one of the best airports in the world. And we can also get there by subway, uber, motorcycle or even on foot, for the most fearless. We have a sea port that exports to more than 148 countries with a great volume of business. We also have Exponor, the largest exhibition park in northern Portugal, and we have a good network of road infrastructures accompanied by a good local economic fabric. Besides many other things, we also have a cruise ship port that is becoming increasingly important at a national level.
"Matosinhos has little more than 60 km2, but it is a territory full of opportunities," he continued. The first Portuguese unicorn "a Farfetch" is based in Matosinhos. We have a large "Fuse Valley" project underway, a technological valley that promises to be a real revolution in the concept of workspaces. And we have much, much more."
Marta Pontes ended her speech by stressing her pride and great pleasure in having these conversations in partnership with companies. "We want to make it happen alongside you. Whether on a micro, media, or large scale, you can always count on us," she concluded.
The talks then continued with various topics for discussion. Eduardo Migliorelli, CEO of Atlantic Hub, launched the topic "Portugal as a gateway to Europe. How to insert your business in the Portuguese market?", talking a little about his own experience in Portugal and how he perceived the difficulty of the Brazilian community in searching for better living conditions and security, and how he saw in this a business opportunity.
The "Legal Challenges in Portugal" was another topic highlighted this afternoon by Miguel Kramer, Of counsel at Brasil Salomão.
The initiative also included the workshop "Cultural differences in business and how to undertake in new places" which was moderated by Fernando Senise, partner at Brasil Salomão, and had as speakers Tiago Maia, Institutional Relations Manager at Lionesa and Luís de Matos, Chairman & CEO at Follow Inspiration, S.A.
The event ended with another conversation, this time on the theme "Why do agile, scalable and strong companies choose the north of Portugal?", moderated by Regina Bronstein, partner at OIBR Squad Brazil-Portugal and the speakers Nelson Sachse, Head of Technology at Matosinhos.tech and Marcelo Bastos, Commercial and Administrative Director of Sizebay Portugal and Brazil.
Remember that the Matosinhos City Hall is organizing, until October 14th, the "Companies Month", an initiative that aims to promote and boost the economic and business sectors of the municipality. More than 20 events, which will involve more than 8 thousand participants and major events such as the Hapiness Camp, in partnership with Lionesa, or the national congresses with AEP and the Portuguese Logistics Association.
