On Friday morning, January 27th, the contract for the new bus service in Matosinhos, Maia and Trofa was signed
The three counties, united in one of the five lots into which the region was divided, were the only ones that had not yet formally delivered the service. At issue were court challenges, whose suspensive effect was lifted in December. The service is expected to be on the ground between next September and October.
Before the meeting of the Metropolitan Council of Porto this Friday, the missing contract for the new bus service in the Metropolitan Area of Porto (AMP) was signed. Only Matosinhos, Maia and Trofa had not yet formally delivered the operation due to impugnations that automatically suspended the process. The document was signed this Friday morning by the Vice Mayor of Matosinhos, Carlos Mouta, the Mayor of Maia, António Silva Tiago, and the Mayor of Trofa, Sérgio Humberto.
The operation of lot 1 (corresponding to Matosinhos, Maia and Trofa) is thus handed over to the Barraqueiro/Resende consortium.
The first-secretary of the Executive Committee, Ariana Pinho, believes that the new operation may be on the ground, after the approval of the Court of Auditors and the respective trial period, between next September and October.
All 14 items on the agenda of this Friday's meeting were approved unanimously, - including a 125,000 euro plan for tourism development - but the mayor of Póvoa de Varzim, Aires Pereira, called for the rapid creation of a metropolitan transport company. This is because one of the still current operators will have received, unduly, a compensation sum for the fall in demand in public transport as a consequence of the pandemic.
The first-secretary of the Executive Committee, Ariana Pinho, explained to JN that when the amount was transferred by the AMP to the operator concerned, the intermunicipal entity did not know that the information provided to the Authority for Mobility and Transport (AMT) by the carrier had been considered invalid. This documentation is mandatory and enables (or not) the transfer of the funds.
Without disclosing which was the carrier whose information was not considered valid by AMT, Ariana Pinho clarified that, to correct this mistake, the amount due by the carrier will be discounted in the next distribution.
