Domestic Violence: MAR Shopping Matosinhos donates 5 thousand euros to help CVP create new beginning

MAR Shopping Matosinhos delivered today, March 1, to the direction of the delegation of Matosinhos of the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) a donation of 5,000€, which will be used to support the institution to improve the shelter "Recomeçar", which welcomes victims of domestic violence and their children. Currently, this is one of the many social responses of the CVP - Matosinhos, which welcomes nine users and 16 minors

Last year alone, 30,389 cases of domestic violence were reported to the security forces. According to the domestic violence portal, the number of reported cases grew 14.6% compared to 2021. Last year, 6,235 victims were referred to shelter homes of the National Network of Support for Victims of Domestic Violence (RNAVVD) (42.9% more than in 2021) - 3,254 women, 2,909 children and 72 men.

Open since November 2005, the shelter "Recomeçar", "will become a more welcoming and 'familiar' house", after changes and replacement of furniture that the initiative of MAR Shopping Matosinhos will allow. This is the goal of Nídia Monteiro, technical director of the shelter house integrated in the RNAVVD, which is intended to temporarily accommodate victims of domestic violence, accompanied or not by dependent children.

Between November 28th 2022 and January 6th this year, MAR Shopping Matosinhos provided children visiting the shopping center with a Christmas Village, with a carousel and a 360º Photobooth, which provided the most special memories with family or friends, whose €1 entrance fee reverted to this cause. The amount raised was 3.737,05€, to which MAR Shopping Matosinhos added the remaining amount to make up 5.000€.

Sandra Monteiro, general manager of MAR Shopping Matosinhos, remembers that "the families who stay in the shelter already have so many difficulties to overcome in rebuilding their lives, that being able to trace new beginnings in a more welcoming and familiar house, is a very worthy cause.
