Drivers complain of being "enslaved" and not being paid overtime

Dozens of drivers of a road transport company gathered, this Monday afternoon, near the company Transportes Sardão, in Matosinhos, and appealed that they should not be "forced" to work so many hours in a row and that they should be paid overtime

The demonstration called by the Trade Union of Road and Urban Transport Workers of the North (STRUN), which took place this Monday in Matosinhos, brought together several drivers from Transportes Sardão and also had the support of colleagues from other companies.

The coordinator of the union STRUN, José Manuel Silva, explains that the main goal of this demonstration is that the company "stops enslaving the workers, forcing them to work from seven in the morning until midnight, without paying them overtime". He also points out that workers who refuse to work overtime are penalised with disciplinary procedures and suspensions

José Batista, a worker at the Sardão company for more than 20 years, currently has a disciplinary process for refusing to work more than eight hours a day. "When we are close to completing our eight hours of work, they demand another service", he concludes.
