European Mobility Week

About 150 new public transportation shelters placed throughout the county

Started this Friday, the European Mobility Week 2022. Matosinhos joined the challenge of the European Commission and the APA - Portuguese Environment Agency to actively participate with initiatives in the area of mobility.

Meeting the implementation of the 11th SDG - Sustainable Development Goals, the municipality of Matosinhos intends to provide access to safe, accessible, sustainable and affordable transport systems for all, improving road safety by expanding the network of quality public transport.

The use of public transport is fundamental for the transition to carbon neutrality. Our municipality is served by the internal operator that provides 23 transport lines, making about 811 trips daily, with a fleet with 40% of its vehicles hybrid and Euro 6.

To complement the activity, the Municipality of Matosinhos, installed 90 new shelters for public transport, to which will be added 55 more by the end of the year.

This morning, and marking the Public Transport Day, the citizens could see in exhibition three vehicles of Maré that will contribute to the achievement of the defined goals, being this hybrid equipment and euro 6 generation, certified as low greenhouse gas emission vehicles. It was also possible to see an example of one of the new shelters of public transport, with the presence of the vice-president of the City Council, Carlos Mouta, and the administrators of the group Viamove, André Rodrigues and Martins da Costa.

Remember that the European Mobility Week was launched by the European Commission in partnership with APA - Portuguese Environment Agency and local authorities.

Every year, from September 16 to 22, European citizens have the opportunity to enjoy a whole week of activities dedicated to sustainable mobility, with the aim of facilitating a wide debate on the need to change behaviors regarding mobility, particularly regarding the use of cars and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the European Mobility Week in Matosinhos, a bicycle ride using several of Matosinhos' bike paths will take place next Sunday morning, September 18, with the participation of several associations linked to cycling and mountain biking.

On Monday, September 19, the latest project of intermunicipal cycling mobility will be presented to the public, through the disclosure of the path of the bike path that connects the Trindade, in Porto, to the Leça green corridor, which will connect the parishes of São Mamede Infesta, Custóias, Leça do Balio, Guifões, Santa Cruz do Bispo, Leça da Palmeira and, finally, Matosinhos.
