A fire on Rua Roberto Ivens, in Matosinhos, mobilized firefighters from all the county's corporations

The flames broke out in a devoluted warehouse, owned by the state. The artery is cut off between Avenida Menéres and Rua de Sousa Aroso. The situation occurred yesterday afternoon, January 24 and there are no injuries to report.
The coordinator of Civil Protection, Susana Gonçalves said it is still unknown what caused the fire. "So that this investigation can be done is necessary to remove all the flammable material that is inside and that can cause a reignition," she added.
The warehouse on Rua Roberto Ivens, in Matosinhos, where the fire broke out, has been vacant and abandoned for months. It is owned by the Directorate General of Treasury and Finance, which mandated the Municipality of Matosinhos to proceed with its intervention.
"There have been some interventions in this building to respond to public safety. At this moment, a lawsuit is being processed in relation to the space and the City Council can not do much of what it has already done," stressed the coordinator of Civil Protection, recalling a collapse that happened there a year ago, and that forced the prevention of circulation near the old factory.
The resident Luís Feijó, 66, who lives next to the warehouse told JN that the flames are a "novelty" in that space where "anything and everything" has happened. "There are young people who vandalize and get in there," the resident added.
The alert for the fire was given at 15.55 hours. In statements to the JN, the commander of the Voluntary Fire Department of Leixões, Carlos Antunes, said that the flames broke out in a storage area of bottles and wine bottles. The incident was concluded by 7 pm and no injuries were reported.
"The professionals managed to contain the flames in that space inside the warehouse, which is located at the back of the building. No other part of the building was affected," said Susana Gonçalves.
The artery was cut off between Avenida Menéres and Rua de Sousa Aroso and remained so throughout the afternoon. The road was passable again shortly after 7 pm, said Carlos Antunes.
On site, were the corporations of Leixões, Matosinhos / Leça, Leça da Palmeira and S. Mamede de Infesta, a total of 21 firefighters four Municipal Police officers, four elements of Civil Protection and two police officers.
