Intermunicipal Summit Took Place Yesterday

Matosinhos and Vila do Conde met to discuss common projects

The executives of the municipalities of Matosinhos and Vila do Conde met yesterday to discuss common problems, projects and partnership possibilities.

The working meeting took place at Museu da Memória de Matosinhos and was attended by the mayors of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, and of Vila do Conde, Vítor Costa.

Luísa Salgueiro considered the meeting "a historical and decisive moment" for the future of the two territories, an opinion shared by the mayor of Vila do Conde.

The Onda river, which constitutes a natural border between the two counties, was in focus, namely the requalification of the pedestrian bridge between the beaches of Angeiras and Labruge, the construction of a bike path between Angeiras and Labruge, with connection to the Modivas Metro station, the rehabilitation of mills and the zones of archaeological interest along the path, the improvement of the river margins, the creation of the Foz do Onda park, and the integration of Vila do Conde in the agricultural park of Angeiras with connection to the network of rural paths.

Regarding mobility, the road connections between Angeiras and Labruge were discussed, focusing on more surgical interventions that benefit the community, including the requalification of existing streets, among others.

The sharing of knowledge and experience, particularly with regard to good practices between municipalities, the possibility of creating an Intermunicipal Court of Peace, the creation of synergies in sports, cultural, recreational and leisure events, the support in the process of decentralization of skills in the areas of education and social action and the preparation of joint applications around the river Onda (similar to what happened with the Leça Green Corridor project) were other issues also discussed. After this meeting, others will follow, of a more technical nature.
