Legal aid can now be requested directly on the Social Security Direct page, and a response is expected within a few days, which, according to the Minister of Labor, is a "digital revolution" and a "giant step"
The new service was presented yesterday, February 28th, at the headquarters of the Institute of Social Security, in Lisbon, and is the result of joint work between various agencies under the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security and the Ministry of Justice.
Social Security receives every year an average of 140 thousand new requests for legal aid, something that had to be done in person and with the delivery of several paper documents.
It was calculated that, annually, 3 million sheets in A4 format were delivered, which is the direct cause of 136 trees being cut down every year. A service that required an average response time of two months.
