Seventeen of the 18 districts of mainland Portugal are from today until Thursday under yellow warning due to the forecast cold weather, according to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Evora, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga will be under warning until 10:00 on Thursday due to the persistence of low minimum temperature values.

The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga between 12:00 and 21:00 today because of sea disturbance, forecasting northwest waves with 4 to 4.5 meters.

Also the north coast of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo will be under yellow warning until 12:00 pm today due to sea disturbance, forecasting northwest waves with 4 to 4.5 meters.

The yellow warning, the least serious, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

The IPMA forecasts for today on the mainland cold weather with cloudy skies or clear and weak to moderate wind from the east quadrant, turning to the north quadrant from the afternoon, and sometimes strong in the highlands.

The forecast also points to frost formation, especially in the north and center, marked cooling at night and small drop in temperature, being more significant in the minimum.

The minimum temperatures will range between -3 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) and 11 (in Faro) and maximum between 10 degrees (in Guarda) and 20 (in Faro).

For the archipelago of Madeira are expected periods of cloudy skies, temporarily decreasing cloudiness in the early afternoon, showers in general weak, more likely in the northern slopes and highlands until early morning, weak to moderate wind and small drop in temperatures.

In Funchal temperatures will vary between 13 and 20 degrees and in Porto Santo between 13 and 18 degrees.

The IPMA also put under orange warning the islands of Corvo and Flores due to sea disturbance and wind, and San Miguel and Santa Maria due to precipitation, resulting from the Kamiel depression.
