A seat on the Bureau of the European Committee of the Regions will enable the Council to keep a closer eye on European priorities.

The Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, has been elected to the Bureau of the European Committee of the Regions, the political governing body of the European institution that represents the local and regional authorities of the Member States within the European Union.
Membership of the Bureau of the European Committee of the Regions will enable the municipality to monitor European priorities more closely, identify new funding opportunities in a timely manner, strengthen institutional contacts and bring knowledge, best practices and experiences from other European regions to Matosinhos.
“This election is, above all, an increased responsibility towards Matosinhos and its residents. A seat on the Bureau of the European Committee of the Regions helps to bring the municipality closer to European priorities, identify new funding opportunities, strengthen partnerships and bring new opportunities to Matosinhos that can improve people’s lives, support businesses and enhance our institutions,” says Luísa Salgueiro, Mayor of Matosinhos.
This role could be particularly relevant in areas such as housing, mobility, environmental sustainability, the energy transition, health, social inclusion, education, culture, sport and the quality of local public services.
For businesses and the local economy, this European involvement can help to strengthen Matosinhos’ links to networks in the fields of innovation, the blue economy, the digital transition, internationalisation, professional training and attracting investment.
The European Committee of the Regions is the European Union’s consultative body that gives a voice to municipalities and regions in the process of European integration. The election of Luísa Salgueiro to its Bureau strengthens Matosinhos’ institutional presence in Europe and creates new conditions for the municipality to be closer to the European decisions, priorities and opportunities that can make a difference to the daily lives of the people of Matosinhos.
