The latest "The Global Status Report on Physical Activity 2022" by the World Health Organization states that between 2020 and 2030, around 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other non-communicable diseases due to physical inactivity

Because it is recommended that adults should do between 150 and 300 minutes of moderate physical activity or between 75 and 150 minutes of intense physical activity per week, MAR Shopping Algarve and MAR Shopping Matosinhos propose 10 days in which there will be no lack of activities, tips and incentives for healthier living habits. The Step Stores arrive on April 20th to the two meeting places and invite visitors to take steps towards healthier lives...
The first step to enter this healthy competition is to put on some comfortable sports shoes and clothes and sign up at the Step Store, which will be installed between April 20 and 30 in the Atrium (floor 0) of MAR Shopping Matosinhos. Then just climb on to the treadmills and give the maximum!
In MAR Shopping Matosinhos, the first visitors who register from 20.000 to 70.000 steps will receive prize packs (limited to existing stock) depending on the level they reach. Each participant can receive one pack per level. The regulations will be available at Step Store and on the website www.marshopping.com from 20 April.
Also the Fitness UP gymnasium of MAR Shopping Matosinhos will hold YourFit Jump, FitDance, Fiit, Salsation and Body Pump classes next to Step Store. The access to the classes is free (limited to 20 students per class), those interested must go to the gym until 24 hours before each class and sign up for it. Take advantage and try for free "that" class you always wanted to do!
Also in the MAR Shopping Matosinhos Step Store, the Matosinhos Local Health Unit (ULSM) will develop activities directed towards women's and children's health, reproducing preparation classes for childbirth, baby massage, newborn care, breastfeeding support and the initiative "Play Consultations", which encourages the interaction between children and parents with health professionals. There will also be screenings for cardiovascular risk factors, as well as information sessions on the importance of vaccination, oral health, physical exercise, nutrition and smoking cessation. In partnership with MAR Shopping Matosinhos, the ULSM will also present projects to promote mental health (yoga, tai chi, laughter yoga, Positive Mental Health activities) and respiratory, cardiac and functional rehabilitation. The agenda will soon be available on MAR Shopping Matosinhos' website.
"The goal of these initiatives is to encourage our visitors and the communities in which we operate to adopt a healthier lifestyle. We know today that physical exercise has a strong effect on people's physical and mental health, and as our mission is to inspire happier and more sustainable habits, the free activities we offer to our visitors cannot lack actions to encourage exercise," says Sandra Monteiro, spokesperson for Ingka Centres Portugal. She also explains that this programme is part of the "Health & Wellbeing" global initiative that Ingka Centres develops every year during spring, extending to various meeting places of the company in several countries.
