Luísa Salgueiro joins the Portuguese delegation to this European advisory body, which brings together local and regional representatives from the 27 Member States.

Luísa Salgueiro, Mayor of Matosinhos, has been nominated by the Council of Ministers as a full member of the European Union's Committee of the Regions.

The mayor will now join the Portuguese delegation to this European advisory body, which brings together local and regional representatives from the 27 Member States.

“I accept this appointment with a great sense of responsibility and also with an awareness of its importance for Matosinhos,” said the mayor.

Luísa Salgueiro is confident that this decision will bring benefits to Matosinhos, “strengthening our presence and influence in European decisions that directly impact territories and people,” she said.

This position also guarantees privileged access to European information and programs, facilitating the attraction of investments, financing, and projects that can benefit the municipality in areas such as sustainable mobility, health, education, culture, blue economy, and social policies.

The Portuguese delegation also includes Carlos Moedas, Hugo Martins, Inês Medeiros, Luís Filipe Menezes, and Vasco Cordeiro, among others.

What is the European Union's Committee of the Regions?

The European Union's Committee of the Regions is an advisory body of the European Union that issues opinions on European legislation and policies that have an impact on cities and regions, representing the interests of local authorities before institutions such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union.

Created in 1994, the body brings together representatives from the 27 Member States who serve five-year terms and participate in the analysis of European policies in areas strategic to regional development and territorial cohesion.
