Matosinhos has 13 beaches with a ‘Gold Quality’ rating

Matosinhos has 13 beaches with “Gold Quality” status, Quercus announced in its 2026 figures.

The municipality thus retains the same number of beaches as last year. In 2025, the following beaches were awarded the status: Agudela, Angeiras Norte, Angeiras Sul, Aterro, Cabo do Mundo, Funtão, Fuzelhas, Leça da Palmeira, Marreco, Pedras Brancas, Pedras do Corgo, Quebrada and Senhora (Boa Nova).

To qualify for the award, the beaches must also have completed the last bathing season (2025) without any record of “incidents/warnings advising against bathing, bans on bathing and/or temporary closures of the beach”.

In total, Portugal has 434 award-winning beaches: 370 coastal, 53 inland and 11 transitional.
