Matosinhos has 42 million approved from the 'European Bazooka'

Most of the funds will be invested in housing

Matosinhos has more than 42 million euros already approved in applications to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), the so-called 'European Bazooka', indicates the municipality. The largest slice will be invested in housing.

According to the Matosinhos City Hall, "260 more houses will be built or rehabilitated and have already received the green light to proceed", an investment of over 37 million euros, originating mostly from the application for funds from the PRR and with the remaining funding from the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU).

Under the '1st Right' program, 105 new homes will be created in two vacant buildings in S. Mamede de Infesta, whose construction tender "will be launched later this year. Also 119 new dwellings will be built in the S. Gens neighborhood, in Custóias. "The first 37 out of 400 vacant municipal housing units in various housing developments in the municipality will be rehabilitated for new rehousing under the supported lease system," and the works must be completed by the end of 2026.

To support social solidarity institutions, 1.2 million euros will be given from the RRP, indicates the municipality. It will allow the creation of 120 new vacancies in social equipment for the elderly and disabled. The Brotherhood of Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos will build a home for the elderly to accommodate 60 people, on a plot of land provided by the local authority, in front of the Matosinhos Primary School, with funding of around 2.2 million euros.

The Association of Support to Disabled Youth (AAJUDE) will build a residential home for 30 people and create 30 new vacancies in the Center for Activities and Training for Inclusion, in the Portela EB1/JI School, ceded for 25 years, with more than 1.5 million euros from the RRP.

Under the Integrated Program to Support Disadvantaged Communities, 20 applications were submitted to the RRP, five of which have already been approved, with funding of 2.6 million euros. The remaining 15 are awaiting a response, amounting to 6.9 million euros.
