16 beaches have now been distinguished with the award
Matosinhos is the second municipality in the North Region and the third in the country with the highest number of blue flags awarded.
During the upcoming bathing season, the blue flag will be hoisted on 16 beaches in the municipality, three more than last year. They are: Angeiras North, Angeiras South, Funtão, Pedras Brancas, Pedras do Corgo, Pedras da Agudela, Agudela, Quebrada, Marreco, Memória, Cabo do Mundo, Aterro, Boa Nova, Fuzelhas, Beijinhos and Leça da Palmeira.
The Blue Flag is a distinction awarded annually by the European Blue Flag Association, and is a symbol of environmental quality, based on compliance with a set of requirements for environmental quality, safety, well-being, support infrastructures, information for users and environmental awareness.
In 2023, the theme is the Geodiversity of beaches, raising awareness of the importance of preserving geosites, particularly rock formations, outcrops and siltation.
