Matosinhos wants Metrobus connection between market and airport

The route is planned to be 10 kilometres long and cross the Leça da Palmeira bridge on the A28. The infrastructure and buses are expected to cost around 20 million euros.

Matosinhos City Council plans to go ahead with the construction of a metrobus line (a green hydrogen bus running on a dedicated channel) between Matosinhos Market and the ‘Verdes’ metro station, next to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.

The link will be around ten kilometres long, and three plots of land are needed, which the owners have already agreed to give up. Nevertheless, the issue will be debated at the Executive meeting in Perafita this Wednesday.

The municipality said that the owners of the land ‘have expressed their willingness to donate the necessary areas, by signing a promissory contract of donation with transfer of possession’.

This project is part of the municipality's plans to dismantle Petrogal. The 24 fuel tanks began to be demolished in October, but Galp's plans for the 240-hectare area are still unknown.

The metrobus route, which will cross the A28 via the Leça da Palmeira bridge, all the vehicles and infrastructure, is expected to cost around 20 million euros, with an expansion to Porto planned.
