Taking into account the current socio-economic context and in order to respond to the main needs of the population in the rental market, Matosinhos City Hall and MatosinhosHabit, created new measures to access the Municipal Rental Support Programme
In order to promote solutions and support the population of Matosinhos with regard to the rental market, the Municipality of Matosinhos and MatosinhosHabit, are planning, throughout the year 2023, to apply to all families that are part of the Municipal Rental Support Programme (PMAA), the introduction of a new formula for calculating support, which is expected to result in an increase in the value of the monthly support granted by the municipality to each family.
According to Manuela Álvares, president of the Board of Directors of MatosinhosHabit, "this new calculation formula includes the alteration of the base income for accessing the programme, adapting the regulation to the current socioeconomic context, also prioritizing certain social situations, namely victims of domestic violence. One of the great novelties is also the 10% increase in the value of the support for young people's applications", he explains.
Throughout the last two years, the programme has registered a growing demand, given that it presents itself as a quick and adequate response to many families that, despite economic difficulties, are able to maintain themselves in the private rental market. The objective defined for this Programme in 2023 is the effective support to an average of 800 families per month.
The PMAA supports the beneficiaries economically, through a monthly contribution of part of the rent value. The operationalisation of this programme has been delegated to the municipal company since 2009, with the services being responsible for the analysis of the applications and their constant re-evaluation, in accordance with the regulations.
