With the arrival of the new phase of construction work on the Boavista-Império line of Porto's Metrobus, which starts this Thursday, March 9th, starting at 10pm, comes also the information of new conditions along Avenida da Boavista
This phase "consists in the passage of the intervention from the central channel of Avenida da Boavista (previously occupied by two BUS lanes and that was occupied since about a month ago) to the south side. This in the sections from Marechal Gomes da Costa to Foco and from Bessa Leite to Guerra Junqueiro", reads the official communiqué from Metro do Porto. "That is, the metrobus works will now occupy the two ascending lanes, and the car traffic in this direction (west-north-east) will be made through the two lanes of the central corridor. Traffic in the downstream direction will remain unchanged," explains the metropolitan public transportation company.
The work on the road will take place "over the next three months", which will result in traffic restrictions at various points on Avenida da Boavista. From 10 p.m. this Thursday until midnight on May 7, constraints are expected to occur in the section between Rua de António José da Costa and Rua de António Bessa Leite, where it will be forbidden to stop and park, except for authorized vehicles, in the southern street of Avenida da Boavista.
Also according to information released by Rádio Nova, based on the Traffic Platform of the Municipality, there will also be traffic conditioning with narrowing of the road on Avenida da Boavista, in the section between Rua de António Bessa Leite and Rua de António José da Costa, and it will be forbidden to stop and park, except for authorized vehicles, on Rua de António José da Costa, East side, in the section between Avenida da Boavista and Rua de António Patrício.
Traffic will be prohibited, except loading and unloading and access to garages, on Rua de António Cardoso, in the section between Avenida da Boavista and Rua de António Patrício and traffic conditioning with narrowing of the roadway of Avenida da Boavista will be felt in the section between the No. 2026 and Avenida do Marechal Gomes da Costa.
According to the same source, traffic will also be prohibited, except loading and unloading and access to garages, on Rua de Ciríaco Cardoso, in the section between Avenida da Boavista and Rua de Carlos Dubini, as well as access to the Via de Cintura Interna, in the section connecting the Praça Rotary International to Avenida da Boavista.
There will also be a one-way change in the access to Via de Cintura Interna, to a downward direction, in the section in front of number 44 and in an extension of approximately 50 meters (for use as an access to VCI, towards Ponte do Freixo).
The metrobus, a hydrogen-powered vehicle that will make the connection between the Rotunda da Boavista and Praça do Império, in Foz, is expected to carry 5 million passengers during its first year of operation. The interventions for the construction of the line result from an investment of 66 million Euros, from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
