Walk "Pilgrim for a day, pilgrim for life" marked the date

The National Pilgrim Day was marked today, 13 October, in Matosinhos with the walk "Pilgrim for a day, pilgrim forever".
Starting next to Anémona, early in the morning, the walk, for which registrations were sold out, was led by historian Joel Cleto, and was attended by the Councillor for Economic Development, Trade and Tourism of the Matosinhos City Council, Marta Pontes.
A walk along the coast of about 13 kms and 4h30 along the Atlantic Coast Path with the purpose of promoting Matosinhos on the Ways of St. James, which ended at the northern edge of the municipality, in Angeiras.
The participants had the opportunity to know better the itinerary of the Caminhos de Santiago in Matosinhos and check how this touristic product is growing. It was also possible to know the main touristic points along the route of this variant, as well as to taste the local gastronomy, one of the ex-libris of our city.
It is worth reminding that, year after year, the number of pilgrims who choose to go to Santiago de Compostela by the Portuguese coast, travelling along the Matosinhos coast, keeps growing.
Until August this year, around 15 thousand pilgrims passed through Matosinhos on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
Matosinhos is an almost obligatory point of passage, were it not for our territory being the location of the famous legend of Cayo Carpo, which gave origin to one of the most emblematic symbols of the Ways of Santiago (Vieira) and to the name of our land.
