Measure is part of the requalification of Armando Vaz street
Children, elderly and representatives of institutions and associations of Perafita participated in the planting of 68 trees, between yesterday and today, in the surroundings of Armando Vaz Street, more specifically at the junctions of Oriental Street and Padre Ângelo Ferreira Pinto Street.
Also present were the mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, the councilwoman of the Environment, Manuela Álvares, and the president of the parish council of Perafita, Lavra and Santa Cruz do Bispo, Lurdes Queirós.
This action is part of the project to upgrade the sidewalks of Armando Vaz street, in order to improve the safety conditions of pedestrian circulation.
The poor condition of the sidewalk and the small size of the wooded sidewalks make circulation difficult, especially for pedestrians with reduced mobility and those carrying baby strollers.
The solution, therefore, is to intervene in the trees, using techniques to adapt the floor around the trees. In cases where this is not possible, these trees will be removed so that the sidewalk can be reconstructed and safe pedestrian circulation can be ensured. For each tree removed, three will be planted nearby.
Most of the trees are located on the south sidewalk. This is where the public lighting system is installed and where the smallest and oldest trees are.
Sixty trees will remain, and in these cases the sidewalk will be repaired and the gutters will be widened around them, so that the trees can grow in the future without interfering with pedestrian circulation.
