Porto District remains on alert due to cold weather

The district of Porto will remain on yellow alert until 11:00 am on Thursday, January 26, due to the "persistence of low minimum temperature values"



The alert extends to 17 Portuguese districts, including Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu, as the weather warning issued by the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

Note that the forecast for mainland Portugal is "cold weather, with little cloudy or clear sky" and "wind sometimes strong in the highlands," and there is possibility of "frost formation in some places" in the Greater Porto.

The districts of Bragança and Guarda remain under yellow warning until 06:00 on Saturday.

According to the Guide to Use of Weather Warnings IPMA, the yellow alert is issued whenever there is a "risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation" and recommends the population "monitor the evolution of weather conditions".
