The municipalities of Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos have come together again in a pioneering new project in Portugal, which will be presented for the first time at the next edition of Expo Real, to be held in Munich, Germany, this week
Greater Porto" is born with the aim of "developing growth opportunities throughout the "value chain" of territorial promotion activities and attracting national and foreign investment to the North/Northwest of Portugal," explains Porto City Council.
Quoted in the note released, Ricardo Valente, councillor for Economy, Employment and Entrepreneurship, summarises the project as an "entity oriented towards the promotion and attraction of investment to the region, with a special focus on international markets and the creation of a strong territorial brand.
"The aim is to create a favourable environment to maximise the values of the region's competitive factors, making it an attractive destination on a global scale, in an intersection of synergies," added António Castro, director of Gaiurb, stressing that the intention is to develop a "concerted regional strategy", with physical presences in international cities.
The same opinion is shared by Marta Pontes, councillor for the Promotion and Support of Activities in the Areas of Economic Development of the Municipality of Matosinhos, who highlighted that to "boost the region's economy and its competitive factors in attracting and developing investment", it is necessary to "break with the current matrix, develop concerted economic strategies, and act in a perspective of articulation, in joint participation, such as Greater Porto.
The project will be presented between the 4th and 6th of October at Expo Real, an event that promotes Greater Porto and each city that composes it, individually, as well as several networking moments.
