Portuguese transportation will have a "single card"

Last Friday, February 10th, the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) presented, at the Pavilhão Centro de Portugal, in Coimbra, the 1Bilhete.pt project

The project aims to enable the validation and purchase of transport tickets "with any public transport card or mobile application" in order to end the need to have a card for each service operator. The measure is expected to go into effect by the end of the year.

The project, in partnership with Transportes Intermodais do Porto (TIP) and Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML), "consists of the creation of an intermodal ticketing technology platform allowing interoperability between existing systems, as well as the introduction of new ticketing systems," reads the official website.

It is also indicated that "it will be possible to create public transport travel tickets of national coverage and use bank cards, in physical or virtual support, to acquire or validate transport tickets, opening the possibility of the attribution of benefits arising from the use of a unified account.

"This project advocates the creation of a single nationwide transport card and we expect to have results still this year," said Duarte Cordeiro, Minister of Environment and Climate Action, according to the news advanced by Diário de Notícias.
