Municipal Police deliver king cake to the elderly that it accompanies
100 elderly people are accompanied daily by Matosinhos Municipal Police officers, under the project "Elderly in Safety". Created in 2013 by the municipality, the project consists in promoting visits to the elderly in the municipality who live in isolation, are physically dependent or have economic difficulties.
Every year, during the Christmas season, the Municipal Police distributes king cakes to the elderly that it accompanies, contributing to less isolation and to their well-being at this time of year.
The distribution operation started today and will continue until Friday. At the start, in Custóias, the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, and the councilman for Police and Municipal Inspection, Fernando Rocha, were present.
The mayor highlighted "the symbolism of this moment" and the "strengthening of affection" at this time of year, remembering, however, that the work of the Municipal Police in this project is daily and very close to the elderly involved.
