The Public Security Police (PSP) operation that took place during Easter week ended with three deaths, 14 seriously injured and 361 slightly injured in 1,199 accidents, the police force revealed yesterday, April 10

According to the press release, PSP carried out 664 road safety inspections (a total of 823 actions), 19,224 drivers were inspected, who recorded 2,584 infractions. Amongst these, 713 speeding offences, 397 for circulating in a vehicle without an inspection and 105 for lack of compulsory insurance were noteworthy.
Carried out between 01 and 09 April, in the PSP's area of responsibility in mainland Portugal and in the autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores, the operation "Police Always Present: Easter Safety 2023" also led to 5,243 alcohol tests, of which 110 drivers were under the influence of alcohol.
The PSP, which sought through this operation "to increase police visibility in the areas of greatest affluence of people" and deter the practice of possible illicit acts, also made 447 arrests in this period, including, for example, 166 due to driving under the influence of alcohol, 124 for lack of a driving licence, 44 for drug trafficking and 13 for possession of an illegal weapon.
"Around 1,990 individual doses of narcotics and 37 weapons were seized, including three firearms and 25 bladed weapons," the criminal police agency added.
