SPV thanks the country for the more than 460 thousand tons of packaging collected
The selective collection of packaging had, in 2022, an increase of 6% compared to the previous year. Sociedade Ponto Verde thanks all the Portuguese people for having placed more than 460 thousand tons of packaging in the green, yellow and blue ecopoints last year, which puts the country ever closer to achieving the recycling targets.
According to data from Sociedade Ponto Verde on the performance of SIGRE (Integrated System for Packaging Waste Management), packaging collection grew last year in all materials. Highlights include glass, with 218,857 tons (+8%) sent for recycling and aluminum, with 1,917 tons (+18%).
Portugal is, therefore, increasingly closer to achieving the new national targets for the recycling of packaging placed on the market, since the overall recovery rate reached almost 60% (59.6%). The current target is 55% and in 2025, the country will have to reach 65% and in 2030, 70%.
For Sociedade Ponto Verde's CEO, Ana Trigo Morais, "being ever closer to reaching the recycling targets reveals the good performance of SIGRE, the cooperation between all agents of the value chain and the continuous effort of Sociedade Ponto Verde in managing the packaging flow, the only one to meet its targets in the country".
"It is, however, the Portuguese people who today deserve our special recognition and thanks, since meeting the national targets for packaging recycling depends above all on their active participation and the results achieved reveal that we are dealing with citizens who are increasingly responsible and committed to this cause. The challenge now is to increase packaging collection by another 5% by 2025. Thank you, Portuguese people!" concludes SPV's CEO.
