TheFork proposes 10 restaurants up to 40 euros to go to on Mother's Day

Among TheFork's suggestions, there are restaurants to suit all types of motherhood personalities: from the most traditional to the adventurous, the indecisive, the sophisticated and those who don't mind eating "with one foot in the sand"

We all know that we are in a phase in which the need to save is imposed. But there are dates that, even so, deserve to be celebrated with special moments and Mother's Day is one of them. In this sense, TheFork highlights ten partner restaurants from Porto to the Algarve, passing through Funchal, with an average price of up to 40 euros per person to take your mother out for lunch or dinner next Sunday, May 7.

For those who turn their heads with the intention of providing their mother with a different program, TheFork's suggestions allow that: a simple meal is no longer just a meal, becoming an experience for all the senses. In between, you can enjoy fado nights, trips to the beach and Michelin kitchens, among other unmissable opportunities.

Special recipes for special mums

Who's the mother who doesn't like a good Italian restaurant? In Porto, more precisely inside the PortoBay Teatro Hotel, Chef Nuno Miguel is in charge of the Il Basilico(average price 19 euros), offering delicious risottos, tortelini, ravioli and, as a speciality, pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven.

Fans of Japanese food will be delighted with the restaurant's Terra (average price 40€), one of the most renowned in the city of Porto, thanks to the fusion of typical cuisines of the West and the East. Member of the Michelin Guide and TheFork's Insider selection, the space led by Chef Camilo Jaña guarantees quality dishes and service for an average price of 40€.

Also in Porto, and also part of the Insider selection, the restaurant Vogue Café (average price 35€) is considered the chicest place in the Invicta city. With its modern, sophisticated and elegant atmosphere, it has a menu that represents the best of contemporary European cuisine.

We went down to Lisbon and found the restaurant Federico (average price 35€), located in the historic Palácio Ludovice Wine Experience Hotel, where Chef Ricardo Simões works with Portuguese gastronomy revisited with international notes. Mothers less keen to take risks will be pleased with the cosy atmosphere and traditional flavours, such as Bacalhau Confitado and Leitão Assado, here with a special touch.

Not forgetting the Lisbon mothers who have Japanese cuisine at heart, TheFork also suggests a restaurant for them in the capital. At Nómada Avenidas Novas (average price 28€), Chef Francisco Bessone combines traditional and fusion sushi, using fresh and varied ingredients.

For mothers who follow cooking programmes on television, the best present might be to take them to Fuel Restaurant & Bar by Chakall (average price 30€), in Monte Gordo, where the star of Os Amigos do Chef invites you to taste the flavours of the world, highlighting typical Algarve products.

And as we are already experiencing temperatures worthy of summer, TheFork suggests a meal before or after a day on the beach at Sem Espinhas (average price 20€), in Castro Marim. So as not to interfere with possible diving, this restaurant above the beach serves lighter options, such as salads, but the specialities are the fish and seafood dishes, such as Açorda de Bacalhau e Gambas, Cataplana de Peixe e Amijoas and Arroz de Lingueirão.

Undecided mothers, who never know what to choose from the menu? TheFork gives you a hand and proposes a visit to the restaurant Alameda (average price 30€), in Faro. Here, Chef Rui Sequeira prepares pre-defined tasting menus, with various dishes inspired by modern Portuguese cuisine. Another plus point is the fact that it belongs to the Michelin Guide and TheFork Insider selection.

In Madeira, almost all the places boast breathtaking views. This is the case of the restaurant Three House(average price 35€), integrated in a Funchal hotel with the same name, which wants to make its visitors feel at home. Nestled under the porch, the space features a menu created by Chef Maurício Faria, which combines fresh Madeira ingredients from the market, with a fusion of world flavours.

Also in Funchal, the restaurant Gavino emerges with an improved gastronomic concept, in which the particularity is the "made by you" menu, i.e., customers have the opportunity to choose the ingredients and accompaniments of their dish. Besides already having a very inviting average price (16€), it is also possible to book this restaurant through TheFork with 30% discount on the menu, except menus and drinks.
