Tourist revenues up 70%

The National Statistics Institute released, on Monday 14 November, data on tourism supply in Portugal



Revenue in tourism activity increased 70.3% to €608.2 million in September compared to the same month in 2021, having risen 21.3% compared to September 2019, pre-pandemic.

"Total income increased 70.3% [year-on-year] to €608.2 million and bedroom income reached €469.2 million, reflecting a growth of 74.5%. Compared to September 2019, there were increases of 21.3% and 22.5% in total and room revenues, respectively," the National Statistics Institute (INE) advanced in the `Tourism Activity` data for September.

In the month under review, the tourist accommodation sector - hotels (hotels, apartment-hotels, tourist flats, tourist villages, inns and Madeira farms), local accommodation with 10 or more beds and tourism in rural/housing space - recorded 2.9 million guests and 7.7 million overnight stays, corresponding to year-on-year changes of +41.3% and +37.4%, respectively (+33.2% and +32.3% in August, in the same order).

Compared to September 2019, there were increases of 0.2% and 0.7%, respectively.
