More than 225 thousand Euros for Sport in Matosinhos, including adapted sport
The Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, presided, late Friday afternoon, 28 October, the signing ceremony of protocols with several sports associations and clubs in the municipality.
In the public session room of the Paços do Concelho building were present several representatives of sports clubs and associations that, also this year, will have the support of the municipality.
An amount of over 225 thousand euros that will be used to improve the equipment, including natural and synthetic turf, remodeling of sports facilities, fencing, paving, lighting, among others. The activities related to the aquatic environment are not left out with the replacement of two cranes for boats that allow the practice of sailing.
Matosinhos also makes a part of this financial package available to associations connected to adapted sports, as is the case of the National Association of Sports for Visually Impaired People, which will hold in November and December, at Centro de Desportos e Congressos de Matosinhos, the European B and World Goalball championships, an event of the International Blind Sport Federation, being competitions that may qualify for places in the Paralympic Games of Paris 2024 and that will count with the participation of 17 teams, 10 male and 7 female, gathering more than three hundred and fifty participants, among athletes and other sports agents.
Also present at the protocol signing ceremony were the president of the Municipal Assembly, Palmira Macedo, the vice-president, Carlos Mouta, the sports councillor and director of Matosinhos Sport, Vasco Pinho, as well as Henrique Calisto, also director of the municipal sports company.
It should be recalled that the Municipality of Matosinhos and the Municipal Sports Company, Matosinhos Sport, have been making a clear commitment to support sports associations, support which is directly reflected in the practice of sports by about 10 thousand federated athletes, of which about 7,500 are in the training levels, in the promotion and development of about 40 sports and support to 113 sports clubs.
