Congress included in the 20th anniversary of Matosinhos Sport

The International Sports Congress promoted within the scope of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Matosinhos Sport, which will continue throughout this year, began on the 20th of April, in the Noble Hall of C.M. Matosinhos with a full audience.
The event was marked by a first panel moderated by journalist Manuel Queiroz and attended by José Maia, from Fadeup, André Seabra, from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Luísa Salgueiro, Mayor of Matosinhos and Deputy Minister Ana Catarina Mendes.
Marked by the presence of presidents and directors of sports federations, associations and clubs, sports technicians and current and former coaches, a debate of ideas on sports public policies and the importance of physical exercise and sports in society took place.
The Mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, declared that "this was a moment to share good practices, but also to reflect on sports".
Recalling that Matosinhos is the "Home of the National Teams", she pointed out that "the recent presentation of the candidature to become the European City of Sports in 2025 is the corollary of an intense work carried out both by the municipality and by Matosinhos Sport and which is based, not only on the work of these 2 teams, but essentially on the dynamics of the associative sports fabric existing in the municipality, and which should be recognised beyond the municipality".
José Maia, from Fadeup, spoke about the REACT project, "a project that puts Matosinhos on the science map", proof of which is the publication of this study in the "American Journal of Human Biology".
André Seabra, from FPF, stated that Matosinhos has been an example of good practices and has carried out work of reference.
She added that sport is also health: in the combat against diseases such as diabetes and fundamental in several other areas such as mental health, besides being a factor for school success, combat against loneliness, as well as an equality factor, especially in gender equality.
The Congress, with limited vacancies, will take place until this Sunday, 23rd, and the programme can be consulted here.
