The 2nd stage of the competition returns on Sunday 23rd June at Praia do Aterro.
The second of four rounds of the competition between surf schools in Matosinhos is back this Sunday, promoted by the Municipality of Matosinhos and organised by the Portuguese Surf School Association.
After a hotly contested first round at Praia do Cabo do Mundo last month, a big fight is expected between Penas Surf School, Surfing Life Club, Onda Pura and Fish Surf School.
"Everything is in place for the second round of the Matosinhos Surf School Cup 2024, which is surrounded by great anticipation. The Surf Schools are thrilled to be returning to the competition after the good times of surfing and sharing that took place in the inaugural round. According to the sea forecasts, Aterro beach is going to offer good waves, which makes for an action-packed day with some of the students surfing this spot for the first time. Everyone is welcome!" said Afonso Teixeira, Executive Director of the Portuguese Surf Schools Association.
Despite being an individual sport, the event's tag-team competition format, inspired by the one used in the International Surfing Association's (ISA) traditional Aloha Cup, encourages team spirit and socialising among the participating surf schools. Each school will be represented by a team of five: a coach and four students.
The competition also aims to be a tourist promotion tool, making new, less popular surf spots known, making participants return later, thus promoting the local economy and also making Matosinhos one of the country's surfing epicentres and a destination of choice.
There will also be activities during the event for the whole family, such as the Xpression Session by Xtreme Surf Design, Beach Clean-Up by Buondi and the Nortada Sunset Party.
The next editions will take place on 22 September and 20 October.
The Matosinhos Surf School Cup 2024 is promoted by the Matosinhos City Council, organised by the Portuguese Surf School Association and supported by APDL, Matosinhos Sport, Xtreme Surf Design, Buondi, Cerveja Nortada, Ocyano and the Portuguese Surfing Federation.
