Preparations for Council of Europe Sports Ministers Conference kicked off

Portugal will host, for the first time, the Council of Europe's Conference of Sports Ministers which will take place in 2024 in the municipalities that make up the Atlantic Front - Matosinhos, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia

In view of this dehydration, the first preparatory meeting was held in December, in the Matosinhos City Hall, chaired by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Correia, the Mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, and Vasco Pinho, Councillor for Sports.

Gender Equality", a much debated and defended theme in Matosinhos, was on the sporting agenda of the day, and Luísa Salgueiro highlighted the international projection that this initiative will bring not only to the region but also to the country.

Besides the 18th conference, the proposal for the event will integrate other conclaves and debates around more themes - "Protection and Safeguarding of Children and Youngsters in Sports" and "Sports Diplomacy".

The event takes place every two years and brings together Sports Ministers from 46 European countries, which are members of the Council of Europe, plus three other countries - Canada, Israel and Morocco. There will also be representatives of the consultative committee, which comprises 36 bodies.
