Between 10 May and 2 June, Matosinhos is preparing to host another edition of the municipality's biggest festival, with some new features.
The Senhor de Matosinhos Festivities begin on Friday. The event's headliner is a concert by Diogo Piçarra, who takes to the stage on 17 May at 10pm in the gardens of the Municipal Library.
The novelty of this edition is the March of the Puppets, a procession of giant puppets that will set off between 10 and 12 May from the Paços do Concelho building to the churchyard of the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos Church at 7pm.
On the first day of the festivities, the decorative illuminations will be switched on at 9pm, on a day that also includes the inauguration of the 19th Matosinhos Craft Fair.
The fireworks display takes place at midnight on 18 May and the traditional procession of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos will take place on the 19th at 4pm.
On the municipal holiday, the 21st, there will be a solemn mass for the Feast of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos at 11am and the Fire of the Puppets show at 7pm.
As in previous years, the event includes a catering area, carousels, entertainment and craft and crockery fairs.
