Young Municipal Assembly took place this week

Youth debate provides an experience of social participation and active citizenship

The Public Session Room of the Matosinhos City Hall hosted, on the evening of May 9th, the Plenary Session of the project Young Municipal Assembly 2023.

In the quorum, 38 young municipal deputies coming from the Secondary Schools of Padrão da Légua, Boa Nova, Augusto Gomes and João Gonçalves Zarco and the Vocational Schools Alternância and EPROMAT, saw their commitment and dedication recognised after a journey of months.

Following the tradition of youth participative policies adopted at the level of local power in the Municipality of Matosinhos, the voices of young people from Matosinhos echoed in the Public Session Room in defence of themes such as Health and Youth Well-being, Public Space, Sustainability and Climate Change, Citizenship and Participation and Employment, Education, Housing and Training.

Under the guidance of the President of the Municipal Assembly of Matosinhos, Palmira Macedo, and in the presence of the Mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, the Vice President and Councillor for Youth, Carlos Mouta, the Councillor for Education, Correia Pinto, and the Councillor for Sports, Vasco Pinho, the Plenary Session was a privileged space for debate among young people, providing an experience of social participation and exercise of active citizenship.

The winning proposal, presented and defended by the João Gonçalves Zarco Secondary School, is entitled "Tradition with Future". A project of a group of young people for whom tradition is the past, the present and the future, the identity, the essence and the history of the municipality, focused on the recovery of traditions and the creation of intergenerational ties.
